Flushing is in the hands of the British and troops fanning out to the West are close to the Marine Commandos coming downfrom the Weskapelle beachhead (where these pictures were taken). This image shows German prisoners that were taken in the fighting being housed in a barn on the way to the Prisoner of War cages.

Explosions straddle German flak positions close to the shoreline on Walcheren Island, 30 October 1944. This attack, carried out by Spitfire XVIs of one of the squadrons of the No. 131 (Polish) Wing, was part of a sustained 'softening-up' campaign by No. 84 Group and the bomber forces in advance of an amphibious assualt on the fortified island.

Two of the five killed in WWII fell in the Italian Campaign and another in the liberation of Brussels by the Welsh Guards in Sept. 1944, after an advance of 100 miles in one day in what was described as 'an armoured lash unequalled for speed in this or any other war'
