Sword Beach

Ouistreham, FR

The easternmost Allied landing zone on D-Day, where British forces of the **3rd Infantry Division** stormed ashore at Ouistreham on June 6, 1944. French commandos of **No. 4 Commando** fought through the casino strongpoint at Riva Bella, and linkup with British paratroopers at **Pegasus Bridge** was achieved within hours. The division's primary objective — the city of Caen — would not fall until July 9.
