A critical road junction in the Ardennes held by the American **7th Armored Division** for six crucial days during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. The stubborn defense disrupted the German timetable for reaching the Meuse and forced Wehrmacht commanders to divert forces around the town. The defenders finally withdrew on December 23 under overwhelming pressure, having bought time that proved decisive.
