Battlefield
Omaha Beach
Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, FR
The most heavily contested of the five D-Day landing zones, where American troops of the **1st and 29th Infantry Divisions** stormed an 8 km stretch of Normandy shoreline on June 6, 1944. German defenders of the **352nd Infantry Division** in fortified bluff positions inflicted approximately 2,000 casualties — the highest of any beach on D-Day. The assault through Vierville Draw and across the shingle beach remains the defining image of the Normandy landings.
