Bayeux War Cemetery

Bayeux, FR

The largest British World War II war cemetery in France, with 4,144 burials — most of them soldiers who fell in the fighting following the June and July 1944 landings. Located in Bayeux, the first French town liberated on June 7, 1944, it is maintained by the **Commonwealth War Graves Commission**. Facing it stands a memorial with a Latin inscription recalling that those who died left Bayeux free to those who survived.
