Bełżec Death Camp Memorial
Subcarpathia, PL
First of the three Operation Reinhard extermination camps to begin operations (March 1942). Approximately 430,000–500,000 Jews were murdered in just 9 months. The entire camp was destroyed and planted over with a forest in 1943; the modern memorial (opened 2004) features an underground museum and a vast symbolic field of cracked earth.
