Airfield
Tempelhof Airfield
Berlin, DE
Berlin's historic central airport, expanded by the Nazi regime into one of the largest buildings in the world. During the **Battle of Berlin** in April 1945, Tempelhof was the last point of aerial evacuation; the final Luftwaffe supply flights landed on April 25 as Soviet forces closed in from all sides. Later famous as the hub of the **Berlin Airlift** of 1948–49, the airport closed in 2008 and is now a public park.
