Camp / POW
Colditz Castle
Colditz, DE
A medieval castle overlooking the Mulde river designated **Oflag IV-C** — a maximum-security camp for Allied officers who had already escaped from other camps. Among its approximately 300 prisoners were future British Prime Minister Douglas-Home and French general Henri Giraud. Despite its reputation as escape-proof, 32 prisoners successfully escaped over the war — the highest ratio of any German camp.
