Dachau Concentration Camp

The first Nazi concentration camp, established in 1933 near Munich and a model for the entire camp system. Over 200,000 prisoners from across Europe were incarcerated in Dachau; at least 28,000 died from disease, malnutrition, forced medical experiments, and execution. Liberated by the American **45th Infantry Division** on April 29, 1945, the camp is now a memorial and educational center visited by hundreds of thousands annually.
