Houffalize
Houffalize, BE
The road junction in the Belgian Ardennes where the US **First Army** (advancing from the north) and **Third Army** (from the south) met on January 16, 1945, formally cutting off the German salient. This junction effectively ended the Battle of the Bulge and set the stage for the Allied advance into Germany. The town itself had been largely destroyed by Allied air and artillery.
