Landing Zone X Memorial

A memorial marking Landing Zone X, one of the glider and paratrooper landing sites used on September 17, 1944 during Operation Market Garden. British glider troops of the **1st Airborne Division** landed here in the opening hours of the operation; the zone was quickly contested by German forces, and reinforcements could not break through to the encircled paratroopers holding Arnhem bridge.
