Patton Memorial Museum Ettelbruck

Ettelbruck, LU

The **Patton Memorial Museum** in Ettelbruck honours General **George S. Patton** and his **3rd Army**, which liberated Luxembourg in September 1944 and then returned to relieve Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge in December. The museum is adjacent to the bronze statue of Patton erected by the grateful citizens of Ettelbruck — one of several Patton monuments in Luxembourg reflecting the deep affection the country holds for the American commander. The collection documents the 3rd Army's campaign from Normandy through Brittany, Lorraine, and Luxembourg to the relief of Bastogne and the subsequent advance into Germany. Particular attention is given to Patton's remarkable achievement of pivoting the 3rd Army 90 degrees north and attacking toward Bastogne within 48 hours of receiving the order — a logistical and operational feat that remains one of the most admired command decisions of the Second World War. Personal effects, maps, photographs, and unit histories of the formations under Patton's command are displayed alongside vehicles and equipment representative of the US Army in the European Theatre.
