Peenemünde Army Research Center
Peenemünde, DE
The German Army Research Center on the Baltic island of Usedom where **Wernher von Braun** and his team developed the **V-2 ballistic missile** — the world's first long-range guided ballistic missile. The facility was devastated by the RAF's **Operation Hydra** raid on August 17–18, 1943, which killed approximately 600 people and set the V-2 program back by months. The site now houses a museum of German rocket development.
