Polish Cemetery Monte Cassino

The burial site of 1,072 Polish soldiers of the **2nd Polish Corps** under Gen. Władysław Anders who fell during the final assault on Monte Cassino in May 1944. Gen. Anders requested to be buried here among his men after his death in 1970 — the only theater commander interred in the cemetery he fought to take — maintained by the **Commonwealth War Graves Commission**.
