RAF North Weald

Essex, GB

One of the principal fighter stations defending London during the **Battle of Britain**, home to Polish squadrons that flew some of the most aggressive sorties of the campaign. On August 24, 1940, when 336 German aircraft attacked RAF sector airfields simultaneously, North Weald suffered serious damage. Polish pilots flying from North Weald achieved among the highest kill ratios of any squadron in Fighter Command.
