The Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force under **General Dwight D. Eisenhower**, established at the Reims Champagne military school in early 1945. It was here, in the early hours of **May 7, 1945**, that General Alfred Jodl signed the unconditional surrender of all German armed forces — the act that ended the war in Europe. A ceremonial re-signing took place in Berlin on May 8 at Soviet insistence.
