Sherman Collection — Bastogne Barracks
Bastogne, BE
The **Bastogne Barracks** (Caserne Bastogne) hosts an outdoor collection of **M4 Sherman tanks** and other Allied military vehicles from the Battle of the Bulge period, displayed in the grounds of the former Belgian army garrison. The collection includes multiple Sherman variants — the standard M4A3 with 75mm gun, the upgunned M4A1(76)W with the more powerful 76mm cannon, and the British-operated **Sherman Firefly** with its 17-pounder gun — allowing visitors to compare the different configurations of the war's most common Allied tank. Additional vehicles include M7 Priest self-propelled howitzers, M8 Greyhound armoured cars, and various half-tracks. The barracks location connects the vehicle collection to the broader story of Bastogne as an American military heritage site — the town that became the symbol of American resistance in the Ardennes. The outdoor setting, with vehicles displayed year-round in all weather, provides a tangible sense of the conditions under which these machines operated during the winter of 1944–45.
