The first Nazi concentration camp established outside Germany, opened 2 September 1939 — the day after the war began — near Gdańsk. Over its 6 years of operation, approximately 110,000 prisoners passed through Stutthof and its 39 sub-camps; around 65,000 died. Original barracks, gas chamber, and crematoria are preserved.
