Battlefield
Utah Beach
Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, FR
The westernmost D-Day beach, where the American **4th Infantry Division** landed on June 6, 1944, recording the lowest casualties of the five beaches — approximately 197. A tidal current pushed landing craft 2 km south of the intended target, inadvertently placing troops at a less-defended stretch. By nightfall, the division had linked up with paratroopers of the **101st Airborne Division** inland and secured a substantial bridgehead.
