Runic Collar tab utilised by the Waffen-SS, stitched to the collar on the person's right side. Digital image of the runic SS collar tab (German: Kragenspiegel ) worn by members of the Waffen-SS before and during World War II, a patch sewn to the uniform on the right collar lapel. The Waffen-SS distinguished itself with the iconic SS collar tab, initially worn by the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler and some other political units. The emblem, featuring two lightning bolt shaped Sieg -runes (a pair of stylistic runic S letters), was designed by Walter Heck in 1929. The uniform tabs were hand-embroidered or machine-woven in silver aluminum for officers and silver grey for enlisted men.
